BLOG PART 5

DAY 9: Only one more song to go! And it has really snowed overnight. It’s starting to pile up out there, I really hope we can get out. We have a lot of food, but not enough for a siege. We watch the blizzard coming in. The hills have vanished……..the woods have vanished……….the field has vanished….OK NOW! Dave and Simon run outside and get some great shots of Dave throwing some rock moves with his guitar while standing on the garden wall. I always knew he wanted to be Slash really.

Right, that’s enough messing around, time to record Broken Bones. This song has been around for a bit, but it has changed so many times, from acoustic number, to epic rock-out, but we have decided to bring it back to a quieter beast. Think it will give the album more variety that way. It takes a while to work out exactly how we want this to sound, but it was always the plan to let it come together in the studio. And it works out nicely. Quietly pounding drums, steady rumbling bass, some high guitar triplets from Guy and Dave on acoustic.

Wow, we have finished! For now anyway. We make a mountain of sausage and mash, nearly mess up the gravy. Hmm, fresh gravy with lumps of flour or very old gravy granules that smell a little of burning rubber? But it all works out in the end. Then we decide to do some quick guide vocals for all the tracks, so we can hear how it is going to sound, and start packing! Not too much though. Rambo 3 is on the tv! We did it! We got all three! Not the new one though, we haven’t seen that yet.

DAY 10: All that is left for us to do is finish packing up the gear and get out of here. And luckily so, because the snow is still coming. And Simon has a party to get to. So we get the van packed, put the house back the way we found it, and move out. It’s a scary drive. The road is packed snow, and about the same width as the van, with a steep slope just to our left that spells certain doom. I am by the passenger door, and I don’t like it one bit! Again, we survive, and it is back to Leeds for us. A minor moment of getting the van stuck back at the rehearsal room is quickly overcome, and we can rest easy for a few days. Until we continue the recording at home, and then see where the future takes us…………………….
