Stuck in Belgium…

Monday, April 19th, 2010 | Uncategorized | 3 Comments

Day one: Set off early in the blazing Yorkshire sunshine, clear roads all the way to Dover, passports – check, Channel calm as a sheet of glass… France, Belgium… high spirits… then the trailer carrying our gear broke – one side of the A frame shearing fromthe body of the trailer. Fortunately it didn’t detatch itself fully and we pull onto the hard shoulder intact… wait for Belgian rescue which arrives with little delay (take note AA and RAC)… some to-ing and fro-ing later and we are recovered to Gent and have a plan for trailer-repair by a trailer-maker in a nearby town(!) called Kalken… but not until the next day which means that post-repair, we won’t have the approximate 12 hour road-time needed to get to Graz in time for the first show… resigned, we hunker down, tired, at a motorway rest-stop… sleep… sleep.

Day Two: Awake in sunshine – roadside ablutions then trailer and touring party relocate to said town for repair and recuperation – estimation of repair time 2-3 hours…  ample time to consume ample quantities of chips drenched in mayo… the story continues…
